Psychodynamic Counselling in Hertford

A sofa and two armchairs around a low table, with an exposed brick alcove

I see clients for weekly psychodynamic counselling at Hertford Wellbeing on Hartham Lane. Sessions are one-to-one and last fifty minutes, at the same time each week. That consistency is not an administrative detail; it is part of how the work builds.

Where to Find Me

Hertford Wellbeing
5a Great Northern Works, Hartham Lane
Hertford SG14 1QW

I see clients here on Mondays and Fridays, with some Tuesday and Wednesday appointments. There is step-free access to the rooms.

The entrance is not at the front. Walk around to the back of the building and knock on the blue door. Worth knowing before you set off rather than working it out on the pavement.

There is no waiting area, so please come at your appointment time rather than ahead of it.

Getting Here

Driving

There is an hour of free parking on the street directly outside, Monday to Saturday between 8am and 6pm. With a fifty-minute session that works, but it leaves very little room either side. If you would rather not think about the clock, Hartham Lane Car Park is a short walk away: pay and display, the first half hour free if you take a ticket, and a couple of hours costs a couple of pounds.

By Train

Hertford has two stations and both are within walking distance. Hertford East, on the Greater Anglia line, is a seven to ten minute walk. Hertford North, on the Great Northern line from Moorgate, is about fifteen minutes, a little under a mile.

By Bus

Buses into Hertford stop at the bus station, Dimsdale Street and Market Street, all a short walk away.

What Happens in a First Session

Before anything is arranged, we have a free initial consultation of fifteen to twenty minutes, online via Zoom. There is no commitment attached to it. Finding the right therapist is largely about connection, and this is a chance for us both to get a feel for whether my approach suits you.

If we go ahead, the first appointment is an assessment: an hour to gather some history, and to understand what has brought you to therapy now. Weekly sessions follow from there.

What I Work With

I work with adults on anxiety and self-doubt, low mood, self-esteem and shame, grief and loss, life transitions, questions of identity and purpose, overwhelm and burnout, childhood trauma, and difficulty in relationships. Psychodynamic counselling explores how early experience and past relationships shape the way you think, feel and behave now, bringing what sits beneath the surface into awareness.

My background is in body-based therapeutic work, so alongside that I pay attention to how the body holds emotion as well as how the mind does.

Fees

Sessions are £60 for fifty minutes, with an initial assessment at £65. The first consultation is free. A limited number of concessionary places are available. Full details are on the fees page.

If Hertford is not convenient, I also work from Stevenage, and online across the UK. If you would like to talk about whether this might be right for you, do get in touch.
